Health First Health Plans named in prestigious U.S. News & World Report/NCQA report

Rockledge, FL (November 12, 2009)—In the U.S. News & World Report/NCQA America’s Best Health Insurance Plans 2009–10 report, Health First Health Plans’ (HFHP) Medicare plans ranked #31 in the nation out of 166 plans that participated in the survey. HFHP’s Commercial plans ranked #60 out of 239 participants. Only one other plan in Florida ranked higher for both Commercial and Medicare products. All rankings are displayed online at www.usnews.com.

The “America’s Best Health Insurance Plans” report is published jointly by U.S. News and NCQA (National Committee on Quality Assurance), an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to assessing and reporting the quality of managed care plans to help consumers, employers and others make informed healthcare choices.

“We welcome the opportunity to participate in reviews like this. It helps us know that we’re not only doing the right things, but getting results that help keep our members healthy,” said Joy Gilbert, HFHP’s Vice PresidentHealthcare Services. “Not all plans are willing to take part in this type of quality study,” she added.

“We applaud U.S. News and NCQA for offering a detailed, objective tool to help consumers choose a high-quality health plan,” said HFHP’s Chief Executive Officer Peter Weiss, MD. “I’m very proud of our employees, providers, and other partners who do their best every day to provide a health plan of this caliber.”
