Diego Velarde, MD, FACS*
General & Bariatric Surgery
Diego Velarde, MD, currently shares his practice with General Surgeon Nathan Allison, MD at the Viera Hospital Medical Plaza. His practice is oriented to general surgery (breast, colon, gastrointestinal cancers, hernia repairs, gallbladder, and appendix) and surgical weight-loss procedures.
Dr. Velarde's professional interests include not only weight-loss surgery but also being able to make a difference in a patient's life by improving their overall health through weight loss. He also performs most of his surgeries laparoscopically, which reduces post-operative pain and length of hospital stay.
Dr. Velarde was born and raised in Lima, Peru. He attended medical school in Guadalajara, Mexico, and then completed his General Surgery training at Mount Sinai Medical Center as well as a Fellowship in Minimally-Invasive Surgery at Mercy Hospital Medical Center - both in Miami.
Dr. Velarde has lived and practiced medicine in Brevard since mid-2008 and is one of the few fully-trained, Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeons in Brevard. He enjoys outdoor activities such as watersports and snowboarding, as well as traveling and spending time with his family.
* At this time, Dr. Velarde is prohibited from seeing any of his former OMNI Healthcare patients or any patients of another OMNI Healthcare physician at his Viera office until August 15, 2012.
